How Do I Get Crew?

As soon as you have registered for an event, let us know your crew needs. If you tell us know the specific skills, experience levels, and personal characteristics you are looking for, we'll refer you to potential candidates. You take it from there and contact the prospects to make your own selections. If possible, arrange for a trial sail together before making final commitments. Because some of the most experienced crew will be in demand, it is wise to begin the search for crew well before the start date.

Normally, it is the responsibility of the crew member to provide transportation to and from the event, and the skipper's responsibility to furnish provisions for the time the crew is on the boat. Skippers normally pay the crew fee.  If you have another arrangement in mind, be sure to make your plan clear at the time the crew member is invited to join the boat.

Your crew can arrive at the event at any time. Most skippers invite crew to the briefing sessions. They can also contribute to voyage preparations by completing important tasks (rigging, stowing, obtaining supplies, performing maintenance, etc). At a minimum, crew should be aboard a full day before the start to allow time to stow gear, meet with the others onboard, and get familiar with the boat.
