How Can I Find a Boat to Sail On as a Crew Member? Each year, 30-50 Volunteer Crew Members are integral to the success of our rallies. Simply, complete the Crew Registration Form on line and tell us about your skills and experience. In turn, we will provide skippers who are in need of crew with names and phone numbers of volunteers. Attending an Ocean Sailing Seminar is also an excellent way to contact skippers who need crew. Every year a few last-minute crew openings occur, so a volunteer crew who can be in Hampton during the pre-event preparation period can often find a crew slot. Normally, the crew member provides transportation to and from the event, and the skipper furnishes provisions for the time the crew is on the boat. Skippers normally pay the crew fee. You can arrive at the event at any time convenient for your skipper. You invited to attend all briefings and social events. At a minimum, you should be on board a full day before the start to allow time to stow gear, meet with the others onboard, and get familiar with the boat. Getting Home from the CaribbeanCheck out flights from Beef Island airport (Tortola) to San Juan and to St. Thomas. You will find many options for connecting flights to the US from both places. Alternatively, you can take he ferry from Tortola to St. Thomas to make your connections to the States. |
