A great way to come home from the Caribbean!
Join us for the Atlantic Cup Rally sailing from Tortola to Bermuda. It is a great way to catch up with your friends from the 1500. You will love the facilities at Nanny Cay… for the boat (docks, chandlery, comprehensive marine services) and yourself (pool, restaurants, and other amenities).
Over the years, we have found it best to split the return trip into two legs. Two shorter weather windows seem to be easier to find than one long one at that time of the year. So, we have an organized rally, complete with radio call schedules, transponders, social events, and awards, between Tortola and Bermuda. Then we wait for the next weather window to leave for the second leg. At that point, smaller groups of boats head off for different destinations and informally continue the radio call-ins as they go.
While it is not an “official route,” we will also have an Atlantic Cup contingent that sails directly from Tortola to the East Coast without the stop in Bermuda. People who choose that route will participant in all of the Nanny Cay events and carry a transponder on board as they converse with the rest of the fleet daily at the designated SSB chat hours.
The event is open to all sailors, so feel free to invite your new cruising friends to join us as well.
The finish and awards party will be at the St George's Dinghy and Sports Club before the ralliers sail on to New England, Europe, or the Mid-Atlantic. Boats can join ARC Europe leaving from the same club.
"We do the Atlantic Cup each year for three reasons ... Security, safety, conviviality. It's a lot shorter hop doing 4 days up to Bermuda, then 4 days over to the States instead of the 7-10 day passage. The need for a shorter weather window adds a great deal of mental assurance to the trip as opposed to the passage straight back."
